Collapsible gift boxes can be supplied flat rather than as fully assembled boxes. This may reduce the space occupied by empty packaging, but the freight saving depends on the shipment.
Compare packed cartons
Ask for carton length, width, height, gross weight and the number of boxes per carton. Compare both formats at the same order quantity. Individual box thickness alone is not enough to calculate the shipment volume.
Understand the freight basis
Carriers may charge according to actual weight or volumetric weight, depending on the service. Routes, minimum charges, surcharges and delivery terms also affect the final quote. A reduction in volume is not automatically an equal percentage reduction in cost.
Consider the work at destination
Flat boxes require assembly. Review the steps, adhesive tabs or locking panels, packing speed and storage conditions with the team that will fill them. Some structures cannot be repeatedly flattened after their adhesive corners are fixed.
